Terms of Service

Effective: March 30, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using TreatJar ("the App," "we," "us," or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App. We may update these terms from time to time, and your continued use of TreatJar after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

2. Description of Service

TreatJar is a family chore and reward management app that helps parents and caregivers motivate children through a dual-currency system:

  • Stars: Behavioral points earned for positive behaviors and habits
  • Money: Job-based earnings for completing chores and tasks

Children can set goals, complete jobs, earn rewards, and track progress, while parents maintain full oversight with approval workflows and activity feeds. The App provides age-appropriate interfaces for children ages 3 through 12.

3. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create a TreatJar account.
  • Only parents, legal guardians, or authorized caregivers may create accounts and manage child profiles.
  • Children access TreatJar through a dedicated kid view within the App. Children do not create their own accounts; all child profiles are created and managed by the parent account holder.
  • By creating a child profile, you represent and warrant that you are the child's parent or legal guardian and that you consent to the child's use of TreatJar under your supervision.

4. Accounts and Security

  • You may register using email and password or Apple Sign In, both managed through Supabase Auth.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You agree to notify us immediately at hello@treatjar.app if you become aware of any unauthorized use of your account.
  • You are solely responsible for all child profiles created under your account and for all content and activity associated with those profiles.
  • Co-parents, nannies, and other caregivers may join your family using a family code. As the family owner, you are responsible for managing who has access to your family's data.

5. User Content

You retain ownership of all content you create within TreatJar, including but not limited to family names, child profile names, behavior descriptions, job descriptions, reward names, goal names, and any other text or data you enter.

By using the App, you grant TreatJar a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing and improving the TreatJar service. This license terminates when you delete your account and your data is removed from our systems.

You agree not to create content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable.

6. Subscriptions and Billing

  • TreatJar offers a free tier with limited features and a paid subscription that unlocks the full experience.
  • Paid subscriptions are processed exclusively through Apple's StoreKit and billed to your Apple ID account.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
  • Refunds for subscription payments are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policies. TreatJar does not process payments directly and cannot issue refunds.
  • We reserve the right to change subscription pricing. Any price changes will take effect at the start of your next billing period after notice has been provided.

7. Amazon Associates Affiliate Disclosure

TreatJar is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites and apps to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

  • Parents may add product links from Amazon to the family reward store within TreatJar.
  • When a product is purchased through an Amazon link in TreatJar (affiliate tag: treater-20), we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.
  • Amazon purchases are subject to Amazon's own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. TreatJar is not responsible for any transactions conducted on Amazon.com.
  • No children's data is shared with Amazon. Affiliate links are accessible only through the parent account holder's actions.

8. Intellectual Property

The TreatJar app, including its design, code, graphics, interface, content, and all associated intellectual property, is owned by Susie Ganapathy and protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

  • You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the App or its content.
  • You may not reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the App.
  • The TreatJar name, logo, and all related marks are trademarks of Susie Ganapathy. You may not use them without prior written permission.

9. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

  • Use TreatJar for any unlawful, fraudulent, or malicious purpose
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
  • Interfere with or disrupt the App's operation, servers, or networks
  • Circumvent, disable, or interfere with any security features of the App
  • Use automated systems (bots, scrapers, etc.) to access the App
  • Misrepresent your identity or your relationship to any child whose profile you create

10. Termination

  • By you: You may delete your account at any time from the Profile screen within the App. Account deletion includes a 30-day grace period during which you may cancel the deletion request. After 30 days, all account data, including all child profiles and associated family data, is permanently and irreversibly removed from our systems.
  • By us: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms of Service or engage in activity that is harmful to other users or to the operation of the App. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before or at the time of suspension or termination.
  • Effect of termination: Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Any active subscription should be cancelled separately through Apple's subscription management to avoid continued billing.

11. Disclaimers

TreatJar is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

  • While TreatJar references age-appropriate behavioral concepts and published research, the App is not a substitute for professional parenting advice, child psychology services, educational guidance, or financial planning.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • TreatJar and its developer, Susie Ganapathy, shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or damages arising from your use or inability to use the App.
  • Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from or related to these Terms or your use of TreatJar shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
  • These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory on which the claim is based, whether in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Susie Ganapathy and TreatJar from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

14. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of TreatJar shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Effective" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update. Continued use of TreatJar after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
